annotation: The author of the article conducts researches of protective forest planting along the Privolzhsky railways; he also determines the efficiency of decrease in acoustic discomfort. The comparative analysis of the degree of effectiveness in decreasing of acoustic discomfort by means of biological (tree-belt areas) and mechanical (noise-protective screens) barriers is given as well as their advantages and disadvantages are revealed.
