Abstract. The article studies the effects of external environment on enterprise structural characteristics. The increasing role of organizational structure management is determined by the trend that the external and internal organization environment becomes more complicated and dynamic. Each enterprise has to analyze and redesign their organizational structure. The article analyzes the influence of complexity, uncertainty, hostility on enterprise structural characteristics. The author describes possible environmental situations that combine different sets of potential variables and gives recommendations on structural design. The suggested approach allows to identify the particular set of environment factors for each enterprise and to optimize its organizational structure according to the requirements of external environment. The results of the research can be applied by managers while analyzing the efficiency of organization structure or during restructuring process.
