Abstract. The article discusses the issue of import dependence in one of the key sectors of the Russian economy the aircraft industry. Based on international customs statistics, the article analyzes the import and export of Russian aircraft industry products, assesses the scale and characteristics of the transformation of the industry’s foreign trade relations, identifies current trends, and draws conclusions about the current level of technological sovereignty. Import has undergone significant changes, with not only a decrease in the volume of imports but also a profound structural transformation. The industry has shifted from purchasing finished products to a model when national enterprises act as assembly and maintenance units, utilizing available imported components. New logistics and trade schemes have emerged, and the geography of supply has shifted predominantly towards the Asian region. Export activity demonstrates a general trend of “turning to the East” and strengthening cooperation within alternative alliances. The Russian aircraft manufacturing industry is building a survival strategy through import substitution assembly based on “friendly countries” imports. The long-term competitiveness and technological independence of the industry will depend on the successful implementation of second-generation import substitution programs focused on creating closed production cycles, developing critical technologies, and establishing sustainable technological partnerships.
